This year Swatantra Theatre was invited to be associated with the Alcheringa Fest of IIT Guwahati.  Alcheringa, IIT Guwahati - one of the largest college cultural festivals in India from 1st Feb- 3rd feb. About 1 lakh youth gathers on the soil of IIT Guwahati as performers and audience. We judged the Stagecraft module, under which Theatrix- The stage Play  competition, Monodrama- Solo Performance and Halla Bol- the Street Play. All Three competitions were judged by Abhijeet Choudhary, Dhanashree Heblikar and Yuwaraj Shah. Hindi, English and Assamese Performances were performed. in the Stage Play module- the performance which stood out was performed in Assamese by a group called Xi Horon -meaning..Goosebumps. The play called Antahin Apekha had the famous Asamese one horned Rhino- Jetuki as the central character. The design and Direction took away all the  praises. In the monodrama segment very interesting yet thought provoking solo performances were done. From soldiers daughter’s pride, to a transgenders pain. From forced  engineering to multiple personality disorder. Varied topics were taken up. In Halla Bol Street play on Body Shaming from Bhopal won without a doubt. NIT Agartala and a team from  Jaipur made stunning performances. Swatantra Theatre offered scholarships to 6 actor participants who we felt have potential if groomed and guided properly. The energy and creativity on banks of Brahmaputra river was amazingly infectious!
